Last night I had the treat of opening a show for Jonny Diaz and Matthew West.  What an incredible show — it definitely ranks in the top 5 for me!  Thanks to all you San Antonians who came out — lots of new friends were made!

If you don’t know about Matthew West’s latest project, The Story of Your Life, please please please go check it out.  It really is incredible : )

Song Story – Jaleah

15 Oct

Hi Friends!
I hope fall is welcoming you all very kindly . I woke up this morning to a temperature of 55 degrees… very chilly to this Texan gal. This is my FAVORITE time of year : )

I’ve been wanting to share stories behind some of the songs with you all, and because a few friends have recently asked specifically about the song Jaleah, I think this is a good starting point!

JALEAH.
A few years back, I spent time in inner city St. Louis, Missouri at a youth and family center. Within the first 30 minutes of arriving at the center, I met Jaleah, the sweetest little 9-year-old girl. Jaleah didn’t leave my side for the rest of my time there. We spent hours jumping rope in the street, playing hopscotch, running through a sprinkler, and talking about our lives. Our lives were very different. My life up to that point had been mostly smooth sailing. I grew up with all my needs met and never once did I worry about my safety or wonder where I would get my next meal. I lived what most would call an extremely comfortable life. Jaleah, on the other hand, lived a life of uncertainty. She spent her days in the roughest part of the city. More than one of her friends had lost a parent due to violence. It would have been easy for Jaleah to believe that her future could not look bright. She could have chosen to be defeated by her circumstance. She chose otherwise, though. Somehow, Jaleah knew that there was more to her life than her circumstance. There was more to her life than the things she didn’t have. Jaleah overflowed with love. Her eyes were always full of joy, and her smile truly did drive away the darkness around her. Really incredible. I had come with a heart to lead Jaleah and be the love of Christ to her, but I never expected to be lead and shown the love of Christ by this 9-year-old girl. I saw Christ in a way I never had before. Looking into Jaleah’s eyes, the only explanation was that something bigger had taken hold of her life. Something bigger had pulled her spirit out of her dark circumstances, out of this tangible world, and into an undeniable love. To this day, there are few others who have touched my life the way Jaleah did.

Soulfest!

1 Sep

Hi Friends!

It’s been nearly a month since Soulfest and I still cannot get over how awesome it was!  What a great, great, great time!  Not only did I have the opportunity to play multiple times with Paul Colman, but I also played a set up on top of a New Hampshire mountain — beautiful!  And even more… I was able to spend so much quality time with some really great people, as well as meet lots of new friends!  Many of those new friends are a part of some really great groups — so — do yourself a favor and check out music from Epic Season, Glenridge, and Chelsea Nisbett.  You won’t be sorry : )

Here are a few photos from the week up north!

one big, happy Soulfest family!

Hey Friends!

Just a little summer update for you all!  I’m hittin’ the road to Nashville tomorrow with my long time friend Molly (she sang some BGVs on the new album!)  I’ll be attending the Indie Ignite Artist Conference this weekend, as well as playing a couple of shows with a few other great Texas artists — Check out The Reliques and Wes Harllee!  And a huge thanks to Greg Carnes for putting such fun shows together!

Once back from Nashville, I’ll have a couple weeks home, a week of camping in cool Colorado, and then a week up in New Hampshire at SoulFest!  Lots happening this summer!  Hope to see some of you somewhere out on the road!  Email laineywrightbooking@gmail.com if interested in booking a show!

Happy Summer : )

“That’s a Wrap!”

23 Jun

Howdy Friends!

So, the coolest thing happened a few weeks ago.  I had an email from a New Zealand filmmaker, who was finishing up his time in the US, asking if I was interested in creating a music video for a song from the new album, Traveler.  Of course, the answer was YES.  So, we spent the last couple of weeks planning and shooting, and are now finished with that stage!  The video is now in the long, detailed editing stage.  We will definitely keep you posted on it’s release date!

We shot a good portion of the video in an old building in my hometown.  Here is a picture after Day 1 on set!

Day 1 on the set of Traveler! Jono Guy on the left and Trevor Gray on the right! An awesome team!

So, after a few fun, sweaty, creative, hard-working days of shooting, we now have all the pieces needed to put together a video.  Thanks to my Austin videographer friend, Trevor Gray, and my new favorite Kiwi, the creative  Jono Guy!  Check out his video work HERE.

We’ll keep you posted on the progress of the video!  Stay tuned : )

Blessings,

Lainey
